I am the vine, you are the branches.  He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.  (John 15:5)

In the first place, it (the branch life) is a life of absolute dependence.  The branch has nothing; it just depends on the vine for everything.  Absolute dependence is one of the most solemn and precious of thoughts….If I can learn to depend on God every moment of the day, everything will come right.  You will receive the higher life if you depend absolutely on God….The vine has to do the work, and the branch enjoys the fruit of it….The vine does the work, and the branch has just to receive the sap from the vine.  The sap is then changed into grapes.
