Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day. (Psalm 25:4-5, NKJV, emphasis added)
Truth comes before the Lord and we know this though waiting upon Him with hope.
Mercy and truth go before your face. (Psalm 89:14, NKJV)
Go before in the Hebrew means to come before, to meet, to confront. Truth (coupled with Mercy once again) is what comes before, or precedes God’s presence and His actions. The work of the Lord is done from truth because He is truth. We can trust that when we wait upon God He will work in His timing for His goodness and ours because it will proceed from truth. Hold on to this truth as you wait on God.
Truth is a shield and a buckler for those who wait on God with great hope.
His truth shall be your shield and buckler. (Psalm 91:4, NKJV)
Shield in the Hebrew means a large shield. It refers to a large, probably rectangular shield used in battle for protection from a formidable weapon. Buckler means a small shield. It refers to a smaller defensive tool used to ward off the attacks and blows of an enemy. If we need a large shield or a small more mobile shield it is the truth of God that we need to protect ourselves from the Enemy. Paul tells us that all our spiritual weapons are held up by truth (Ephesians 6:14, NKJV) when he says, “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth.” Truth is vitally important to the disciple and we need to wait on the Lord and use truth in battle.
God judges in truth and this is known in waiting upon Him with hope.
For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with His truth. (Psalm 96:13, NKJV)
A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth. (Isaiah 42:3, NKJV)
But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things. (Romans 2:2, NKJV)
God cannot judge by any other standard but truth, because He is truth. We can stand assured that the Lord will judge us not to condemn, but to reward (2 Corinthians 5:9-11) because we have been imparted the righteousness of Christ because we are in Christ. Those who are not in Christ stand condemned because they will be judged unto death.
Read Ephesians 6:10-20 and in truth wait upon the Lord with great hope to equip you with His armor to fight the battle you have been called into.
