Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48)

Believer’s Bible Commentary states the following:

“The previous verses (Matthew 5:11-47) explain that to be perfect means to love those who hate us, to pray for those who persecute us, and to show kindness to both friend and foe. Perfection here is that spiritual maturity which enables a Christian to imitate God in dispensing blessing to everybody without partiality.”

I love William MacDonald’s commentary on this verse.  Do you want to learn how to love unconditionally?  Live the teleios life.  Do you want to pray for all, even those who oppose you?  Live the teleios life.  Do you want to live a life of charity and be Christlike in your interaction with all people?  Live the teleios life.

Teleios will become the life which is mature in Christ.  It is a life which can be observed.  It is a life of enablement.  It is a life of God’s power manifested in our actions.  Only a teleios life brings blessing to all.  Only a teleios life develops Christian character.   Teleios is God’s plan for you.

Teleios takes time.  Teleios is a walk with Jesus, day by day, moment by moment.  Teleios is worth the effort.  It is simple, but not easy.
